Skillauto nears chequered flag
Published:  24 October, 2012

The F1 and supercar maker has invited the UK's top young automotive technicians to visit McLaren's Technology centre in Surrey. The Skillauto competition, organised by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), is the national competition which seeks to find the best young technicians in the fields of mechanical repair, car body repair and car painting through a knockout competition.

Among the finalists is apprentice technician Daniel Medlar of Clive Atthowe Tuning in Norwich. Earlier this year technician Dan Wright from the same garage came second in Aftermarket's Top Technician contest while garage owner Clive Atthowe has won the same competition in the past.

Also in the final is apprentice tech Matthew McKeown, from  Pat Kirk Ltd in County Omagh. This family-run independent garage is notable because it owns and controls five separate local VM franchises.
